The year is 1950. Post-war Germany is being rebuilt. Coal mining is one of the most important pillars for the economic upturn.

As the owner of one of four mines in the Ruhr area, you ensure that your company runs smoothly: Guide your buddies through their shift, organize the removal of the coal and the refinement in the coking plant. Also make sure that you are ahead of your fellow competitors on the road, rail and canal. In short, build the most productive colliery settlement and secure your reputation as the most successful colliery operation and experience a piece of the Ruhr area history of the 1950s.

Shift Change is a strategic Ruhrpott colliery game for 2-4 miners. A game runs over 5 rounds, which in turn consist of 3 phases in which you prepare the mining operation (1), carry out actions until everyone has passed (2), and score one of the changing round cards (3) to collect victory points.

Each round begins with the drawing of coal and waste cubes from a bag, which the starting player distributes to all players. With the dice you load the carts of your mine before you cleverly use your actions and miners to get victory points. Victory points are earned by selling coke, by reaching the target fields of the three traffic routes road, rail and canal, and by completing the miners’ shift with your miners. Do not lose sight of the level of your pit water or your fellow campaigners, because they will use the limited construction pits and coveted coking plant areas in the hunt for victory points to fight for victory.
