Patrick Aylewood is dead: shot with a targeted head shot by the angry father of his ex-fiancé. The representatives of the law quickly get back to business, the evidence seems too clear. And so the corpse of the company inheritance waits laid out in a gloomy little room for burial, while the murderer stews in his cell. But his act also has dramatic consequences for the daughter and the bride prevented. Is everything really as clear as it seems? The young woman wants answers and asks the detectives to deliver them to her. The search leads them into Liddesdale on Liddel Water in the border region between England and Scotland. A seemingly backward area with some industry and at the same time romantically transfigured in the course of the growing enthusiasm for Scotland. The country is also rich in ghosts: in the minds and perhaps even real ones, witnesses to a long warlike past. It is not an easy task to look for some kind of truth behind the closed-looking expressions of the Scots. But maybe the ghosts of the past will reveal themselves after all. Who knows what is hidden in the dark of times and hearts …
