Standing on the railing of a viewing pavilion and watching beautiful, colourful hot-air balloons rise into the air in the distance – this is the idyllic game situation in which the players find themselves in Havalandi.

With their own hot-air balloon fleet, they compete against each other to build the most magnificent fleet. The players try to score as many points as possible by skilfully placing their balloons and forming the largest possible balloon groups within the different regions. Before each turn, an airship indicates on which fields the active person may place a balloon. Alternatively, they may expand an existing balloon group in a region adjacent to the airship. After placing, the players can let their balloon fleet rise. Depending on how many different regions the fleet ascends from, they receive different numbers of points.

More points come into play through final score cards and the placement of balloons next to the pavilions. Special balloons with different abilities bring additional challenges, as does a double-sided game board.
