In Nimalia, the players create their own animal reserve in which, if possible, all animals will live in harmony. Achieving such a balance requires clever decisions and a certain foresight. Only those who manage to meet the needs of all animals in the reserve have a chance of winning.

In each round, all players choose an animal card from their hand and play it into their reserve. The remaining cards are passed on clockwise. In order to score as many points as possible in the subsequent scoring phase, the reserve built should correspond as closely as possible to the specifications of the task cards relevant in the current round. For example, it is possible that flamingos do not want to live on the edge of the reserve, which has a maximum size of 6×6, or that jungle areas are particularly in demand.
