From the netherworld, a ghost tries to communicate a secret word (object) to the living. In Ghost Writer, the players take on the role of either a ghost or a medium – they either try to communicate a word or guess one. They compete against each other in two teams. There is exactly one ghost and up to three mediums in each team.

In each game of Ghost Writer, there is a secret word (the object they are looking for) that is only known to the two ghosts. They want to help their mediums guess this object first. To do this, the teams’ mediums play question cards one after the other, to which the ghosts then answer. But not verbally, but in writing, letter by letter. In the middle of a word, the mediums – as soon as they have an idea of what the ghost wants to tell them – can interrupt the communication at any time so as not to reveal too much to the opposing team, which does not know the question. The team that correctly guesses the term first wins!
