The V-22 Osprey is a revolutionary new aircraft that can be considered both a helicopter and a conventional aircraft. It is currently undergoing troop trials with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines, who are currently testing the flight characteristics of the helicopter pilot. Thanks to its extra-large swivel rotors, the Osprey is able to take off and land like a helicopter. Once in the air, the rotation of the engines gives it a speed and range previously unattainable for helicopters. V-22s are intended to replace the ageing CH-46s as transport and combat helicopters in the Marines and are also expected to become standard equipment in the Special Forccs.
