The Chinook medium-weight transport and combat helicopter was developed for the U.S. Army during the 1960s. Newer versions are also used by the armed forces of many other countries. The basic version was modernised for special units of the U.S. Army and, as a long-range version, has much larger fuel tanks. The MH-47 is equipped with advanced night vision devices and satellite navigation equipment and has an effective defensive armament thanks to its armament with various machine guns.
