This helicopter is characterised by its exceptional robustness and reliability. It has been in service all over the world since the mid-1960s and is probably the best-known helicopter. During the Vietnam War it was used for combat, rescue and transport purposes. Subsequently, it was also produced in Lizez in Italy, Germany and Japan and has been used by the military and police in more than fifty nations. Twin-engine versions are currently in production and it is expected that the UH-1 will remain in service for another twenty years.
