Fish & Cat

The old fish stall owners at the famous Korean fish market Jagalchi sometimes need a break from their hard work. When they take a nap, their beloved cats take over the stall. These loyal pussies love their owners more than anything, but they love fish too. What could possibly go wrong?

The designer’s game Fish & Cat offers responsive play at its best, including its own cat paw finger for full feline authenticity. In Fish & Cat cute cats and tasty fish meet at an Asian fish market set up by the well-known Korean artist Fish & Cat Thanks to the cat’s paw finger, it has an unbelievably high level of encouragement and no waiting times. Fish & Cat is a reaction game that can also be played wonderfully with children and different generations.

In Fish & Cat you use your cat’s paw finger to catch and collect the best fish species, which are laid out as playing cards in each round. You fish in the truest sense of the word by grabbing the fish of your choice with a kind of lucky cat movement – all at the same time. Whether you can take the fish from the fish market display depends on what the others have grabbed: If several players have the cat’s paw finger on the same fish, no one gets the card and it goes to the discard pile of Fish & Cat. If a player has three fish cards of two species, all other players may count them and score points, whereby the fish species have different values. If no player has collected enough valuable fish, a new round simply begins Fish & Cat-Fishing fun!

With Fish & Cat from the bottom of our hearts: We are delighted to be able to plant a tree for every game sold through the sale of Fish & Katz! As trees are not everything, the further work of “Trees for the future” also aims to support local families who live from agriculture with knowledge and tools. The organization’s clever approach is called “There is no one-size-fits-all solution”. This is why we are working with local communities to see what help is needed to achieve more sustainable agriculture. Like the Heidelberger Spieleverlag was founded in 1989 and works primarily in the sub-Saharan regions of Africa. Detailed information is available at: https://trees.org.

All plastic markers in Fish & Cat are made from the sustainably recycled plastic RE-Plastic® manufactured. For RE-Plastic® our supplier uses Wissner 100% reusable polystyrene from “post consumer production”, i.e. post-industrial waste that has been recycled on site and returned to production. Because RE-Plastic® can be recycled again and again, this recycling cycle is maintained continuously, effectively and responsibly. RE-Plastic® is absolutely equivalent to new plastic granulate in terms of quality, appearance and feel. The use of RE-Plastic® is a sensible use of resources, ecological and CO2-neutral: as Wissner puts it: This is realized environmental protection without loss of quality.

In 1989, Harald Bilz and Peter Gutbrod founded the Heidelberger Spieleverlag to publish their own game ideas. With Neolithibum 1992 (Top 10 of the German Game Award) the young publishing house could celebrate its first bigger success. As a development studio they want to concentrate on games that build a bridge between family games and...
