The North American TBF Avenger is an American carrier-based torpedo bomber that was mainly used in World War II. Designed by the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, the TBF Avenger was a key element of American naval aviation during the fighting in the Pacific. The aircraft, which entered service in 1942, was used to attack surface targets, especially enemy ships. The three-man crew consisted of a pilot, a gunner and an operator. The TBF Avenger was armed with a machine gun and could carry torpedoes, bombs and rockets. Its participation in the Battle of Midway in 1942 was crucial to the success of American naval aviation. After the end of the Second World War, the TBF Avenger was gradually replaced by newer designs, but remained in service until the 1960s. This aircraft gained fame as a reliable fighting machine that could survive even heavy damage and return to the aircraft carrier!
