Wolverine was the perfect specimen for the experiment to fuse the metal adamantium with a skeleton, as he was able to heal himself from almost any wound. The programme succeeded in creating a virtually indestructible soldier.

Christoph Nord, now known as Maverick, has had a life of trials and tribulations. He eventually became a mercenary and found his way into the Weapon X programme. Since he first joined the programme, he has returned time and time again and can never escape the pull of the weapon for long.
